Me and Kane by Auntie Clare

I remember Kane being born very clearly. I was only 14 and was an auntie!! I couldn't have been prouder. I loved babysitting him, even sleeping downstairs and waking in the nights to give him a feed when I was watching him. When he was about 2 he was into everything,as most two year olds are, but I was revising for my GCSEs and no bugger would keep him out of my bedroom and he wouldn't leave me alone...what I'd give now to have him plague the life out of me by chattering away to me every second of every day.... I was more like his big sister than an auntie. As Kane grew up, he and I grew closer and closer. We had fun together, wound each other up, turned to each other when we needed someone to talk to. We were friends as well as family. As Kane got older and his problems became more serious he would turn to me a lot. I had a song for him 'True Colours' as it summed up how I felt about him and how utterly fabulous a person he was(which became my song for him after he found himself being sung to by a very drunken Auntie Clare during a night in at my friends house with Kane aged about 14) and he had one for me 'Strongest Person I know', which he rang and played down the phone for me int he early hours of a weekend morning when he was slightly worse for wear aged about 21 saying that it was like Mike Skinner had written it for him to say how he felt about me. I still can't believe he's gone and I don't believe that death has broken or can ever break our bond.
